The Bernedoodle

What is a Bernedoodle?

A Bernedoodle is a crossbreed between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, which combines the desirable traits of both breeds, into one amazing dog. Poodles are known to be one of the smartest dogs, playful, and non-shedding, and Bernese Mountain Dogs (also intelligent on their own), posses an affectionate, loyal, and social temperament, thus making the blending of both breeds a well-rounded, low to non-shedding, quick-learning, easily trainable, and human focused dog.

What Do They Look Like?

At Bella Ridge, we breed to produce standard, medium and mini Bernedoodles. Sizes vary depending on the size of their parent breeds. Their coat, which needs regular brushing and grooming, can also differ from being curly, to wavy, or straight, and is generally of medium length. Bernedoodles come in a variety of colors and shades of black, gray, sable, brown, apricot, blonde, cream and white, with the occasional Red or Blue Merle. Most Bernedoodles tend to shed very little, if at all. An F1B generation or higher is recommended for those with pet allergies.  Bernedoodles eye color can come in a variety of colors such as blue, green, or brown eyes or any combination of the two.

Personality:

Bernedoodles are a goofy, friendly and happy breed; they’re  very intelligent dogs with a gentle, loving, playful, and outgoing personality. Of course, each puppy is unique, but overall, they’re a lower energy to moderately active  versatile breed that is very human focused. These are qualities that make them a great family and/or service dog. Their ability to easily adapt allows them to take on the desired needs of their humans, whether it be relaxing at home right next to you on the couch, or outside romping around and exploring the world. They adore people and have a strong desire to please and to be loved. Like the Poodle, Bernedoodles tend to have a silly personality, but like the Bernese, they tend to be quiet and sensitive. They are human focused and therefore excel when trained in specific tasks and duties making them exceptional candidates for service dog. This combination is what makes them a desirable breed.

Why a Family Dog?

Bernedoodles make great family dogs, because of their temperament. They are known for being human focused, social, and friendly, which means they get along well with family members of all ages and other pets. They also tend to be patient and calm, which is important when dealing with younger children. The breed is know for being quick learners and can easily be trained, thus making them great for families who want a dog that is easy to train with a desire to learn various commands and tricks. They’re considered a low-nonshedding breed, which makes them a good choice for families with allergies, or for those who don't want to deal with a lot of dog hair around the house. They do require regular brushing and grooming, but their coats are easy to maintain.
